Pradan Foundation is a non-profit, non-governmental development organization dedicated to improving the lives of underprivileged communities in Jharkhand, India. Established in 2010 in Hazaribagh, the organization has been working for the past 14 years to empower vulnerable people through participation and sustainable development.
Pradan Foundation operates with the belief that there is no single solution to eradicate poverty. Instead, it addresses a wide range of issues faced by marginalized communities through an integrated and sustainable approach, aiming to improve their quality of life.
Operational Areas
Pradan Foundation is active across several districts in Jharkhand, including:
- Focus Districts: Hazaribagh, Chatra, Koderma, Latehar, Medininagar, Garhwa, Lohardaga, Gumla, Simdega, and Ranchi.
- Statewide Presence: The organization is operational in all districts of Jharkhand to ensure maximum outreach and impact.
Field of Operation
The foundation follows an Integrated Sustainable Development Model focusing on five thematic areas:
i. Health and Nutrition
- Community Health: Trained health workers promote awareness on maternal care, child immunization, hygienic practices, and institutional deliveries.
- Institutional Health: Pradan operates Rural Health and Training Centres (hospitals) in Hazaribagh and Chatra, offering 24/7 services such as OPD, IPD, pharmacy, pathology, and ambulance support.
ii. Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH)
- Educated communities on safe water handling (collection, transportation, storage, and usage).
- Installed and renovated deep tube wells for safe drinking water.
- Prevented open defecation through awareness campaigns, demonstrations, and infrastructural support.
iii. Education and Protection
- Operates bridge courses and coaching centers for school dropouts, unschooled children, and those enrolled in rural areas.
- Prevents child labor and trafficking by admitting children to residential and non-residential schools.
- Provides nutritious food and health education to promote hygiene among students.
iv. Livelihood and Women’s Empowerment
- Established Self-Help Groups (SHGs) for women to foster savings habits and initiate small business ventures.
- Promotes Pond-based Integrated Farming (vegetable gardening, fish farming, poultry, and vermi-composting) for income generation and self-sufficiency.
- Trained farmers in the Systematic Rice Intensification (SRI) method of paddy cultivation, which is high-yielding and cost-effective.
v. Environment and Disaster Management
- Undertakes initiatives to address environmental sustainability and disaster relief.
